cannes, france

i have been swimming every single day here in the south of france. there is nothing better and the mediterranean sea happens to be my favorite body of water, hands down. to me, it is like going back to the womb.

these castles in the sand where left behind by a small child. i thought they were incredibly beautiful.

i’m usually all about white clay with black words, but here in france i tried black clay with white words. i’m loving the result (the clay is actually much blacker than it is in this photo).

the colours in the town of vallauris are so beautiful to me. very muddy and very bright at the same time. i’ll paint the flower petals in colours that reflect this town.

i wanted this vessel to look like an old cement wall, as i am inspired by the decrepitness of this town. i find the old facades and the wear and tear of the buildings so incredibly beautiful. so much history. so much life. this is the kind of thing that really stirs my soul.

slow burn.

the other night we shared a bisque firing that was packed to the gills. though it doesn’t really looked that packed here, you should see what’s beLOW. we fired this kiln super slow . . . for 25 hours. i’ve never fathomed the idea of making something that day and firing it THAT night . . . but i did, and they survived. plus, all of my cracks that i mended with straight vinegar seem to have healed themselves. you learn something new EVERY day.

here is the invite to our show in vallauris, france. these images are of work in progress, but i love the rawness and the way they all look together. we 3 residents have very different styles that seem to compliment each other, and we have all become fast friends, to boot. if you happen to be in the area, i highly recommend coming to our opening (even if it’s just for this).
