spoon fed.

i’ve been making a lot of spoons here in france and i think it might be inspired by all of the fabulous food i’ve been eating. the strange thing is that my spoons keep getting BIGGER. i’m hoping this has no correlation between my food intake or waist line.

“i find this pleasure so sweet and charming.”

slowing down.

i was so anxious to touch clay and i love being in my simple + charming studio. i made all of this work (still in progress) in 2 days. i used a spanish white clay. it’s super groggy. super wet. super great for coil building. hand building seems to fit in with the way of life here, it is very slow and un-rushed. people take their sweet time to do everything. i even notice what a fast walker i am, and am trying to slow down and reflect the rhythm of the town. i mean really, what IS the hurry ?

the studio.

these are the doors to my studio in vallauris, france.

and this is behind closed doors. my charming studio where i have been spending at least 10 hours a day in. it’s on a very sweet neighborhood rue. we leave the doors open and people (and dogs) come by to visit all day long.

the south of france

i sketched this in 1993 on the road from spain to the south of france. i can remember that trip explicitly. that was the year i started keeping a travel journal, only because i had lost my camera on a train (which was a fortuitous mishap). on monday, i leave to go back to the south of france for the month of june. if you want to follow along on my journey more closely, check my facebook fan page here, i will be updating frequently.

it’s the small things.

why is it that everything looks better when it is small ? my favorite children’s clothing store is cotton sheep in hayes valley. they have the MOST beautiful children’s clothes from japan. so perfect and bite size. i always ask the owner why they can’t make them just a tad bigger to fit me, and we always laugh and agree at the answer: “because it wouldn’t be CUTE if it was any bigger !” well, the same goes for these little tea cups that i designed for jess brown. if they were any bigger, they would lose their cuteness factor for sure.

it’s true. i love a squeeze of lime (or lemon) on almost everything. i keep our kitchen well stocked with these citrus staples. and every time i squeeze one on my food, i look at my husband and he says with a knowing nod, “i know, i know, . . . everything tastes better with a squeeze of lemon.”
