the SKETCHBOOK project.

i’m sending off my sketchbook today to go on tour with the sketchbook project. this is a traveling library of 28,836 artist’s sketchbooks from 94 countries. the tour will go to brooklyn, austin, san francisco, portland (maine), altlanta, chicago, washington dc, and winter park (florida).

. . . my book is full of sketches, musings and findings of the beauty i see in the everyday, mundane and ordinary objects. hopefully the tour will land near YOU. i can’t wait to see all of these sketchbooks under one roof !

lotta and i met 10 years ago and became fast friends. she is without a doubt one of the most talented and creative creatures on earth. her highly recognizable line of fabric, soft goods, paper goods, and books are sold world wide. this is a pencil case that i use for holding my reading glasses in (which is always just an arms length away).

p.s. i was honored this week to have been featured on one of my FAVORITE blogs . . . read about it HERE.

i love starting a new year. it’s a clean slate and the possibilities seem endless. my main goals for 2011 are: to live with more intention, to feed my creative soul, and to learn how to say “no” (sorry if you were/are the recipient). i am trying to do less custom/wholesale work and instead to make what I want to make because I want to make it, not because i HAVE to. i already have a few projects brewing . . . stay tuned. it’s going to be a great year.

2011 SMASH UP.

READY . . .

AIM . . .

F I R E !

it was our favorite time of the year . . . the pottery posse SMASH UP ! we love to start out the new year DESTROYING the pots that have been sitting around our studios all year . . . taking up space, collecting dust, NOT SELLING, or perhaps they have a slight imperfection (not enough to immediately toss, which there ARE many of those, but that you had high hopes for), and then there are those that are just. plain. ugly. well, their day had come and they got what they deserved. there is nothing more cathartic than hurling those bad boys into a cement wall. the sound of shattering china. the destruction of bad and stale energy. this can only make room for good spirits, healthy pots, and new work . . . plus it is loads of fun.

getting in the spirit.

(click on the image for a closer look)
i am finally able to come up for air, only to realize that christmas is literally 2 days from now. how is that even possible ? so yesterday, i spontaneously decided to go to union square for just a minute to soak up some holiday spirit and to buy a couple of gifts. i’m so glad i did. this was such a beautiful sight (taken from the 4th floor of saks fifth avenue). it literally took my breath away and made me sad at the same time. i was transfixed. it also made me sad that stores are having HUGE 40% off sales already. it’s as if the after christmas sales are now starting before christmas. can’t we all just slow down and live in the moment ? the best part of the day was being able to see my friend diana. to me, family, friendship and human contact is what christmas should be about. the rest is just fluff.

cheers.

(martini with pickled green beans made by the in-house bartender du jour, whitney smith)
what a whirlwind of a weekend this was. the renegade craft show was off the charts. i was SO busy both days that i didn’t even get a chance to take a picture, log onto facebook, chat on the phone, or do much shopping . . . which was a real bummer, as it seems there was a LOT of good loot that i missed out on. i think my having a big sales bin was the magic key. i got rid of SO MUCH old stock, seconds, and prototypes . . . i will continue to have a sales bin at the gallery. it’s a great way to lighten my load without having to smash the work (which is coming up soon).
i am still quite busy shipping orders out, but am so looking forward to january, when i will reduce my custom order intake in order to concentrate on other things . . .
cheers.

this is my favorite orla kiely wallet. it’s small, compact, and because of it’s brightness, easy to find in the deep dark abyss of my purse.

LET’S EAT.

does anyone like to eat more than your dog does ? (i don’t think so) these napkin rings were inspired by my dog friend toki. i love that some dog commands work just as well for us humans. this set of napkin rings will be a great conversation starter and the perfect hostess gift for your canine loving host.

you can get a set right here.
