i have finally glazed these new little cups. they are smaller than a coffee cup and bigger than an espresso cup (but perhaps perfect for a double malt scotch). i’m still not fond of making cups, but after next week, i will be done with them for a while. with the holidays just around the corner, santa’s workshop is officially open . . . i’m stocking up for the winter, as things are going to change in the new year !

i bought this little dish at the flea market on sunday. to me, this is perfection. especially since it was strictly utilitarian in it’s origin. i find great beauty in it’s simplicity and straightforwardness. it’s not even trying to be beautiful . . . but to me, it so is.

i am doing 2 cup shows + a gravy boat show in november. don’t ask me why. cups just might be my least favorite thing to make. i don’t enjoy dealing with a handle or with a rim that has to be good enough for someone to put their mouth on. but, as always, it is a good way to push me into making things i usually wouldn’t make. and though i don’t “like” doing it, i do like having new work to look at.

this flute was on display at the bennington museum. i love this museum. it was founded in 1852 and has the largest collection of gradma moses paintings (whom i adore), a fabulous pottery collection, old tools and musical instruments, plus so much more. as a flautist myself, i was particularly drawn to the simplicity of this old flute.
