is it soup yet ?

pureed roasted red peppers . . .

plus potatoes, leeks, onions, herbs, s + p . . .

equals roasted pepper soup !
all of these ingredients were organically grown by my husband’s sister’s husband. i’ve never made this soup before so i just winged it . . . and it was tasty, too ! it was the perfect it’s-almost-fall vermont lunch.

the ring.

i have spent a LOT of time digging through antique stores here in vermont and have come across many treasures. i bought this old ring the other day and am completely mesmerized by it. there is something about it that inspires me, moves me, satisfies me. maybe it has magical powers from the person who wore it long before i found it ? i love the fact that there is history behind this ring, and i hope the next person who gets to wear it feels the same way about it as i do.

we are in vermont for most of september. every summer we come here for a month to get away from the hustle + bustle of our busy lives in the city. it is exceptionally beautiful and peaceful and calm here and easy to get back in touch with nature, which is crucial to my well being. this squash was grown by my brother-in-law who is a phenomenal organic farmer and can grow anything. he brings us large amounts of his exquisite crops. life in vermont is pretty close to perfect.

crate & barrel & me.

i’ve been having people that i don’t even know contacting me from across the country, concerned that crate & barrel had been “knocking me off” (i find this very endearing). but NOT to worry ! i designed these dishes especially FOR crate & barrel, and though my name is NOT on the back, i AM getting the credit where credit is due.

these might just be the perfect studio shoes. not only are they super comfy, but they are plastic/rubber and can be hosed down at the end of the day. and though they are not the cutest shoes in town (bordering on perhaps the ugliest ?), they add a bit of height and are easy to slip on and off . . . 2 of my shoe requirements. plus it doesn’t hurt that they are dirt cheap !

the holiday.

after my very hectic summer, it is TIME TO PARTY ! i am taking the month of september OFF and heading to new england for a much needed (and well deserved, if i do say so myself) holiday. this photo is a piece of our wedding cake that we just ate on 08/08/10. it had been in our freezer for two years, but was still amazingly moist and delicious. mmmmmmmmmm.

*please note that if you order something from my shop now, it will be shipped in october.

i feel like the weather is starting to turn already. the leaves are falling off the trees and the wind is starting to blow. i’m almost ready to pull out this scarf that i bought at a trunk show last year. it is made of old cashmere sweaters and it doesn’t itch the neck (pet peeve). it seems as though we were shorted a summer this year. but we do have the indian summer to look forward to in october, right ?

anyone who knows me, knows i am highly un-technologically inclined. i was the last person on the block to get a cell phone. the last person i know to get a computer. the last person to get a laptop and do away with dial-up, etc . . . so when my husband presented me with an iPad last week, i wasn’t sure what i was going to do with it, though it is certainly VERY cute. then yesterday i discovered sketchbook pro. and now i think i am in love. this is the best thing i have learned in years (though still learning, as it’s only been a day).

i am in a cup show this november, so cups are on my mind.

winding down.

after my torturous past 2 months of ’round the clock studio time + 3 shows in july, i am SO ready to relax. i’m finishing up my pile of custom orders and then hanging up my apron for the month of september. i actually went to the studio yesterday in my nightgown and sweatpants. have i no shame ?

*please note that if you order something from me after august 25th, you won’t receive it until october. if it is a custom order, you won’t see it until november !

i’ve been sketching + painting right onto my pottery and combining my 2 great loves. sketching right on the clay feels so permanent and set in stone, which can be quite daunting at first. but nothing that can’t be thrown against the wall at the end of the year !

this is one of my favorite quotes from “the little prince.”
