O I N K .
i love pigs, especially pot-bellied pigs (which i hope to own some day). they are ridiculously cute and their intelligence rivals that of a dog, plus they are actually quite clean. check out this amazing pig who is less than one year old. you might want one too !
in honor of the pig, i made some new soap dishes here.

i discovered mulberries in 2003. such a sweet and delicate wee fruit. i found them very easy to eat by the basket full and they might just be the cutest little berries you will ever meet !

bot-a-ny.
my second generation botany vases have a dictionary description of the word on the back. i made a decal using my really old dictionary and i feel sad because i had to actually tear the page out in order to photo copy it (it broke my heart) . . .
but, i have always loved the look of the classic dictionary description of a word. it looks so studious (which i am not), and i enjoy mixing academia with art (which i am).

flower power.
these are other new vases that i designed for the GUMP’S floral show. i love just the hint of colour and i wanted the flowers to look like they were falling from the sky. these pieces are coil built and are very time consuming. it is an extremely slow process, but this is the technique that made me fall in love with ceramics. i love being in that mesmerizing *coil building zone* . . . there is almost nothing better.

gump’s is the word.
i was asked to be in a group show at the historic san francisco store, GUMP’S. the show is entitled “floral inspired: celebrating the relationship between design and nature” and will feature 16 artists. since i work best under pressure + deadlines, this was the perfect challenge: to come up with new work in a short amount of time. and tricky since i don’t use flowers in my work, nor do i have many vases in my repertoire.
this is what transpired: i used words having to do with flowers, nature, and vessels . . . and i snuck a flower deep inside the vase, sort of like a secret garden.
. . . and to fully gump’s-ify this work, i added a touch of gold to the back of the vase. and so was born the “botany vase.”
