être.

this is the parfum i designed at GALIMARD yesterday. it contains 17 scents ! it was an amazing experience and the perfect way to remember this 2013 phase in the south of france. i named it “être” . . . which means “be.”

OH the SMELLS !

for those of you who don’t really know me, my DREAM JOB (other than being a puppy petter) is to be a NOSE. i have a very acute sense of smell, which can be a good trait AND a bad trait . . . but i digress. so, yesterday i went to Grasse, France to take a PARFUM making class ! what an amazing day. i was in my element. i don’t wear parfum because i’ve never found one that i truly loved. after the parfum i made yesterday “marinates” for 15 days, i’ll be curious to see if it’s a smell i can actually live with. they keep your formula on record so i can always get more, and they will even make it into a shower gel, soap, lotion, . . . if you’re ever near grasse, i HIGHLY recommend a visit to GALIMARD. you won’t regret it and you’ll walk away smelling like a rose.

uh oh.

usually i mark my trip to france by my nutella consumption. i always exclaim that “i can’t leave until my jar is empty.” well, i still have a few weeks left here and . . .

seeing beauty.

the town where i am doing my residency in france, vallauris, is a very poor and run down town. it is filled with potters and other artists.  the city council is trying to revive this little town and luckily they are huge supporters of the arts. this is a typical street in vallauris. very old and worn, but to me, so hauntingly beautiful.

see the sea glass.

every morning (here in france) i run 2 miles to the mediterranean sea, swim, hunt for sea glass, and run back. i usually find just enough sea glass to pack into my little running shorts key pocket. but on this fine day, i found ALL of this sea glass ! it was SO amazing and abundant that i had to carry it  home in one of my running SOCKS ! totally worth the blister i then got from running home sans one sock.

je suis comme je suis.

these started out as figs, but then they started turning into pears, but then they ended up being cups. sometimes you can not control the clay . . . it controls you, and you just have to give up the fight. je suis comme je suis.
