friday the 13th field trip (from the sketchbook).

todos santos, mexico
december 2012

this was a very strange candy that was FULL of different and opposite flavors. it felt weird to be eating something and not knowing whether i liked it or hated it. but since there is actually not a food that i DON’T like, and because i wasn’t fully repulsed, i think i kind of liked it and would eat it again.

(i think i made up that word “granulous” . . . it means full of granules.)

friday field trip (from the sketch book).

san francisco, ca

2005

i love the look of the old fashion candies, they are like jewels. these were at miette in the ferry building, one of the cutest bakeries you will ever step foot in. these stick candies bring me back to a sweet + fond memory of childhood. i LOVED candy, as my dentist would gladly attest to. but later in life, my sweet tooth turned into a savory tooth. now, i much prefer the savory, and my sweet tooth is practically nil. but the sweet memories still live on . . .

friday field trip (from the sketch book).

san francisco, ca

2005

i love drawing candy, maybe even more than i like eating it (i have a savory tooth, not a sweet tooth). i can spend hours in a confectionery with my sketchbook. the smells, the visuals, . . . pure sweet heaven. i sketched these at recchiuti confections in san francisco. michael recchiuti makes some of the most amazing looking AND tasting sweet treats you will ever put in your mouth. perhaps your sweet mom would like something sweet for mother’s day?
