my friend, jessie, and i have started a painting salon (with just the 2 of us as members). we meet every wednesday morning, lock ourselves in her studio with a LOT of tea or coffee, blast the music, and then draw, paint, charcoal, pastel, ink, oil, scratch, smear, etc . . . with reckless abandonment.
one of the assignments we gave ourselves was to pick an object and to draw it every single day for 3 months. i chose this antique key from france as my object. it was a completely random choice, as my office is loaded with objects. but now that i think about it, it seems the perfect choice, plus it has a deeper significance. hopefully this will be the key that unlocks my inner-creativity. there ARE no accidents in life, right ?
EVERY morning, my husband leaves me the perfect cup of tea on my bedside table (this is no easy feat . . . 2 tea bags steeped for 4 minutes, a cup of non-fat powdered milk, a dash of organic grade B maple syrup all elegantly whisked and concocted in a mason jar or pint glass and served to me piping hot). and in his quest to get me to eat food before 2 pm, he will sometimes leave me a morsel of food or a smoothie. today he left these soft boiled eggs. i thought the colors and the composition were ever so photo-worthy. isn’t he a good egg ?
i was happy to see my plates being used in this most excellent food blog called MOM’S KITCHEN HANDBOOK. katie specializes in healthy, delicious, and easy meals for the family that the kids WILL eat ! she is the mom of 3, a freelance food + nutrition writer, a registered dietitian, and a cooking teacher. her blog is chock-full of great recipes and tips that even the “non-moms” will love. (it’s also a very entertaining read).
i fell in love with stockholm while i was in sweden, attending the wedding of my friend lotta jansdotter. we stayed at this fabulous hotel called RIVAL. and right across the street was a beautiful cemetery. i find that most cemeteries tend to verge on the scary and creepy side, but this one was quite sweet and picturesque, with rows and rows of beautiful organic shaped and colorfully muted tombstones. stockholm is now one of my all time favorite cities. it is so lovely and inspiring and full of impeccable design as far as the eye can see.
