i LOVE old suitcases and totes. i have a huge collection of them that i have picked up at flea markets + antique stores around the world. this one was the perfect size and shape to contain my many tubes of acrylic paints and brushes. i believe it was an old musical instrument case . . . perhaps a clarinet ?

i love spoons. i have a large collection of sorted spoons, varying in shape, size and material. the form and function of a spoon is so comforting to me. you can see more of my spoons here, here, and here.

i had the most amazing cocktails in the east village, at a bar called death & company. sort of a morbid name, yes . . . the drinks have a creative twist on pre-prohibition cocktails. this bar is dark and moody and stocked with an array of rare, aged, brown liquors (my favorite liquor color). the talented mixologists concoct the most incredible drinks i have ever sipped, layered with flavors that dance in your mouth. and the drinks come with ONE gigantic ice cube. classy.

i love the way land looks from way up in the sky. landscapes become big seamless quilts, and all of the colors of the fabric seem to match perfectly. sometimes it’s a good idea to step back and see things in a different light and angle. you can really gain a new perspective. and things might even look a little bit better to you.

fresno, california
october 2009
i was born and raised in fresno and we still have the same house that we moved into when i was 6. i often take piles of clothes + shoes home that i don’t really want to “get rid” of, but don’t want in my closet here. also, when i go home for a visit, i don’t have to pack much. i found these shoes in my fresno closet that look much better on PAPER than they ever did ON !

i saw this dress in the gala dali castle, which was salvador dali’s last workshop and the mausoleum for his muse, gala. this is one of her dresses. i love the idea of wearing a uniform everyday and if i had to, i would make sure mine was something just like this.
