je suis comme je suis.

these started out as figs, but then they started turning into pears, but then they ended up being cups. sometimes you can not control the clay . . . it controls you, and you just have to give up the fight. je suis comme je suis.

the pear.

this is a newly documented old teapot of mine. i have always had a “thing” for pears. i refer to them often in my work. i love their shapes and their colors. and though i love pear flavor, i can only eat a very firm but juicy pear, which means the window of opportunity of pear consuming for me is very small. i’ll buy what i think is the perfect pear at the market, and by the time i get it home, it is too mushy for me to eat. but i do enjoy fake pear flavoring . . . and an asian pear is almost always perfect.

friday field trip (from the sketch book).

emeryville, ca

2010

i’ve always been drawn to pears. the shape is so alluring to me. i refer to them a lot in my work, sculpturally and decoratively. i was recently asked to be a guest artist for the *button club.* this is the artwork i did and below is the button tanya made from it.

if you are into “buttons” (though they are more like “pins”), this is a fun club to join . . .
check it out right here.
